Understanding Self-Determination from a Behavior Analytic Perspective

Objectives:

  1. Recognize the importance of self-determination as a critical skill for their clients.
  2. Differentiate between choice, self-management, and self-control, and learn evidence-based strategies for teaching these skills.
  3. Develop a behavior-analytic understanding of self-determination and identify measurable goals to enhance self-determination for those they serve

Ethics Dialog: Creative Ways to Face Ethical Challenges

Speakers:   Shawn P. Quigley PhD, BCBA-D, CDE®   

Objectives:

  • Attendees will learn about multiple different ethical discussion modalities that exist in other literature.
  • Attendees will learn about a model for a journal to host ethical discussion within a print format to support ethical decision making. 
  • Attendees will review a real-life example of a treatment recommendation, Spelling to Communicate, that was not in harmony with the ethics code, how the professionals handled the situation, and three independent reviewers’ critique of how the ethical scenario was handled.

This event will explore how professionals can navigate these complexities by learning from real-world examples and engaging in a journal discussion format. A Behavioral Systems Approach to Ethics Training & Supervision

Speakers:  Dr. Matt Brodhead will lead participants on how to use a systems approach to teach their employees what to do when ethical challenges arise! 

  

Objectives:

  • Participants will identify the six steps of behavioral systems analysis.
  •  Participants will describe an example of how to use behavioral systems analysis to improve ethical behavior during one on one supervision. 
  • Participants will describe an example of how to use behavioral systems analysis to improve ethical behavior during group supervision.

Full Details:   Professional and ethical behaviors are critical for high quality care and consumer protection. By using behavioral systems, behavior analysts may increase the probability of employees engaging in professional and ethical behaviors. This presentation will survey the basic components of behavioral systems analysis (BSA) and how BSA may be used in practice to promote ethical behavior. Ultimately, this presentation aims to provide a pragmatic, solutions-oriented, and socially-valid approach to ethics that
focuses on teaching employees “what to do” in certain situations, instead of using a punitive “how not to behave” approach for employee management.

Ethics & Applications of AI in ABA

Join Drs. Adrienne Jennings and David Cox as they take us on a deep dive  into our understanding of AI's potential in ABA service delivery and  the ethical frameworks necessary for its integration into behavioral  health practices.

  • Participants will be able to differentiate generative AI from  discriminative AI; and API-driven AI systems from model-driven AI  systems.
  •  Participants will identify at least five use cases for AI in the delivery of ABA services.
